Background / Introduction

The Department of Community Medicine, Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Kolar, Karnataka, conducted an Inter School competition on Rabies Prevention and Control on 31st January 2025, in connection to Centenary Birthday celebrations of our Founder Chairman, Sri RL.Jalappaji.

 

A total of 2400 school children of 10 schools were trained and sensitized regarding Rabies Prevention and Control in a month long school based programme. On 31st January, 2025, a total of 110 students of 7 schools participated in the various events.

Awards / Prices

Poster competition: The theme of Poster competition was “Rabies: a fatal, yet preventable disease”. The judges were Dr Chaitra (Dept. Ophthalmology) and Dr Seethal Rose (Dept. Community Medicine). The results were as follows:

First prize : Gitanjali AL, Pranavi CN, and Haripriya D (Chinmaya Vidyalaya)

Second prize: Sanvi M, Sai Samarth, Moulya Shree (Chinmaya Vidyalaya)

Third prize : Lekhana, Bhavitha, Afra (Rock Valley International School)

 

Elocution competition: The theme of Elocution competition was “Rabies: Awareness and Societal action’”. The judges were Dr Soumya (Dept. Pathology) and Dr Vishwas (Dept. Community Medicine). The results were as follows:

First prize: Shuchitha Priya R (Suvarna Central School)

Second prize : Bani Krishna B M (Chinmaya Vidyalaya)

Third prize: Naira Afsa (Suvarna Central School) and Sheshta RK (Indian Public School)

 

Short Video making competition: The theme of Short Video making competition was “Rabies: Educate, Vaccinate and Eliminate’”. The judges were Dr Soumya (Dept. Biochemistry) and Dr Vishwas (Dept. Community Medicine). The results were as follows:

First prize: Tejas Arya NR, Sarvesh S, Hemanth Kumar, Harsha Shree A, Sunidhi MN (Indian Public School)

Second prize : Abhinandhana S (Sri Venkateshwara School)

Third prize: Channakeshava, Akul, Ujwal BS (Rock Valley School)

Valedictory

The valedictory function was presided over by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor , SDUAHER, Dr Vengamma B, who shared her experience of working on this Neglected Tropical Disease.

 

Dr Muninarayana C, Registrar addressed the gathering and congratulated the Department of Community Medicine organizing the event.

 

Mr Ravishankar, the Senior Faculty, Department of Community Medicine thanked the management for supporting the event. Dr Samudyatha UC, Organizing Secretary of the event presented a brief report on the month-long activities.
