Allied Health Care Professionals (AHP) are expert works with main stream of health Care professionals in Medical, Dental and Nursing. They function in health care delivery related services in diagnostic, preventive, technical, therapeutic, rehabilitative, curative and other services in promoting health to the communities and at large to the mankind with their knowledge, skill and values imbibed in them. They play considerable, role in providing quality health care services to the population.
Increase in the need for trained allied health care personnel/ technologists in the country, demands AHP essentially with a strong knowledge in the domain and shall be able to perform at a much higher level of skills. In context to any health crisis time, they are the frontline warriors participate in healthcare related services under the supervision of Medical professionals.
Attempts were undertaken to bring all the segments of AHP to one common overarching structure includes from National Commission for Human Resources for Health Bill (2011). Ministry of Health and Family Welfare commissioned a study led by the Public Health Foundation of India Reported-- From Paramedics to Allied Health Services (2012), The recent Notification of The Gazette of India The National Commission for Allied and Health Care Professionals Act 2021 under Ministry of Law and Justice to provide for regulations and maintenance of standard of Education and services by Allied and health care professionals in the country is now proactive.
Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research (SDUAHER) realized the need of Allied health care professional’s work force to augment the health care delivery services rendering by Sri Devraj Urs Medical college and teaching hospital started by offering a various allied health science programs to produce manpower for the contribution of the community development and also to satisfy the societal needs under the Faculty of studies in Allied health and Basic sciences (FAH&BS) since 2010.
FAH&BS trains and prepares young allied health care professionals in order to make them as competent work force who can contribute to our Nation “skilled India”. The academic programs developed to cater to educate and train students in allied health fields to emerge in to competent graduates for a rewarding service –oriented career in health care industry. Such trained AHP would ever be in demand after graduation in the chosen field. They can serve largely in their domain and add to the growth of corporate, government, and private health sectors etc.
