REPORT OF WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY AWARENESS
PROGRAMME FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS HELD ON 15-10-2024
On October 15, 2024, the Department of Community Medicine, in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry at Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Kolar, hosted a World Mental Health Day awareness event at Sir Joseph Lister Hall. The programme attracted 227 students from local schools and focused on educating them about the importance of mental health. Dr. Prasanna Kamath B T, the head of the department, opened the event at 10:30
AM, stressing the need for a supportive environment where students can discuss mental health issues freely. Dr. Muninarayana C, Registrar of SDUAHER, spoke on the importance of early intervention in adolescent mental health. Following him, Dr. Seethal Rose addressed the theme of prioritizing mental well-being in schools and future workplaces. At 11:30 AM, Dr. Mahima highlighted the prevalence and early detection of anxiety and depression among adolescents, emphasizing the critical role of early support. The final talk by Dr. Sahana S. Murthy, Assistant Professor in Psychiatry, detailed strategies for managing adolescent mental health issues, focusing on the collaborative roles of families, schools, and healthcare professionals. The program wrapped up at 12:45 PM with Dr. Pradeep T.S, offering thanks to all contributors. This initiative fostered active engagement and discussion among students, enhancing their understanding of mental health and stress management.
