(SDUAHER) Kolar on 6.12.2023 from 10.30am -1.30pm as per instructions given by National

First session of the programme was by Dr. Anitha, Associate Professor, Department of
General Medicine, SDUMC, Kolar. She explained about the importance of CPR with help of A-V
aids. She explained that this is an emergency procedure consisting of chest compressions often
combined with artificial ventilation, or mouth to mouth breathing in an effort to manually preserve
intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and
breathing in a person who is having a cardiac arrest. This was followed by demonstration of how to
perform CPR by Dr. Vishnu Vardhan, Associate Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology,
SDUMC, Kolar. He demonstrated each step of administering CPR in detail with the help of a
mannequin. He emphasised the importance of the ratio of chest compressions to ventilation being
30:2 for 2 times, requirement of defibrillator and tracheal intubation.
Hands-on training was given by Dr.Rajesh K, Associate Professor, Department of
Emergency Medicine, SDUMC, Kolar. Students participated with enthusiasm and curiosity and
learned this life-saving skill. The CPR demonstration comprised of following steps; calling for help,
laying the person on their back and freeing the airway, check for breathing and starting of CPR
(30:2 chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth breathing) and taking them to nearest higher medical
centre for further evaluation.
