Level of Event – Academy
Background/Introduction- The celebration of Ratha Saptami at SDUAHER was unique in its approach to combining physical activity with spiritual practice. The event started with a prayer followed by Dr. Ashween Bilagi highlighted the importance of the Ratha Saptami day. Mrs. Sunitha, Mr. Nikhil, and Ms. Shreya instructed and demonstrated the Surya Namaskara practice. A central feature of the event was the performance of 21 rounds of Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation), a yoga sequence that is traditionally associated with honoring the Sun God. In alignment with the Department’s vision of Integrative Medicine, this event demonstrated the powerful impact of combining traditional practices with modern medical approaches for holistic health.
This practice was not only a way to connect with the spiritual essence of the day but also an opportunity for participants to engage in physical fitness and well-being. Surya Namaskara, as a practice, promotes overall health by improving flexibility, strength, and
mental clarity, embodying the integrative approach of combining mind, body, and spirit.
