World Hypertension day 2023 was observed by Rural Health Training Center (RHTC), at Devarayasamudra. This year, the theme for World Hypertension Day was “Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, live longer”. The day started with inauguration by Dr.Prabhakar K, Dr.Sunil B N, Dr.Kavitha, Sundar Raj, Mr.Krishna Iyer.

            Dr.Sunil B.N, Associate Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine, SDUMC, welcomed all the villagers and spoke regarding the theme of World Hypertension Day. He explained how, low awareness of hypertension among people enables the condition to get more serious. He also spoke about clinical symptoms of hypertension.

            This was followed by Dr.Prabhakar.K Principal SDUMC, addressing the gathering regarding dietary approaches to stop hypertension, its complications and importance of exercise, yoga, meditation and advised the public regarding the treatment of hypertension and follow- up.

              Dr.Kavitha, Medical Officer, PHC, Devarayanasamudra shared her knowledge on how to monitor blood pressure. She described tracking of blood pressure, modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. She explained how hypertension is a major risk factor for premature mortality among adults across the globe.

Mr. Krishna Iyer, 82 years old resident of Devarayasamudra thanked the DRS committee for organizing this event. He described the role of low cost and locally relevant health education intervention that enables self-management of hypertension in the population including early detection of   hypertension, which is very important in the context of developing countries.
