WORLD POPULATION DAY 2023
Every year, the World Population Day is observed with the goal of highlighting the difficulties created by overpopulation and raising awareness on the adverse effects of overpopulation.
The theme for World Population Day 2023 was “Let us take a pledge to adopt Family Planning as a choice for happiness and prosperity”.
This day was observed on 11/07/2023 by Rural Health Training Center(RHTC), Devarayasamudra at Govt.Polytechnic College,Mulbagal-156,Kantharaja circle,Kolar. Around 200 students of Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, (SDUMC) Kolar participated in the program.
Dr.Raga Sravya, UHTC incharge Medical Officer, Gandhi Nagar, spoke regarding the history of World Population day, the problems of overpopulation affecting humans, animals and plants, and the consequences of overpopulation on environment, illiteracy, etc.
Dr.Pruthvi, PG of Community Medicine, SDUMC, spoke on this year's World Population Day theme and explained that in the current times of global economic crisis, we should focus on reproductive health including family planning, so we can make greater progress for women & families.
Dr.Varun, PG of Community Medicine, SDUMC spoke regarding Substance misuse, a serious problem which disrupts our lives & negatively impacts our physical and mental health.
Dr.Raga Sravya and Dr.Pruthvi gave brief explanation on how a non-communicable disease like Hypertension, Diabetes affects the community, especially in India. They also explained about the complications of hypertension and diabetes and & precautions to be followed to prevent being afflicted by these non communicable diseases.
Dr.Pradeep T.S gave his insights on mobile addiction & concluded the session by telling the importance of quitting tobacco and alcohol and adopting a healthy and productive life
