at Jain International School, Mulbagal. International Epilepsy Day, celebrated each year on the 2 nd
Monday of February, is an opportunity to raise awareness of epilepsy, what it is, how it can be treated,
and what is needed to bring treatment to all people who need it. The program was headed by Dr.
Vengamma B, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (SDUAHER) and Dr. Prabhakar. K, Principal, SDUMC.
Mrs. Noor, staff at Jain International School welcomed the guests and presented the token of gratitude.
The day began with performance of skit by postgraduates of Department of Community Medicine on
Do’s and Don’ts in emergency response to seizure. Dr.Prabhakar K, Principal, spoke about the
management of seizure and also explained the impact of wrong practices in the management. Dr.
Vengamma. B had an interactive session with students. She discussed various aspects of epilepsy,
including its causes, symptoms, treatment options, and dispelled myths surrounding the disorder. She
played several videos to clear myths on sports and epilepsy. She mentioned several famous people who
suffered from epilepsy. She emphasized that epilepsy is not a hindrance for successful life if managed on
right time with right medications. Dr. Vengamma also asked the teachers to be on the lookout for the
signs of absence seizures in children which is often missed as it lasts for few seconds. Dr.Harshitha,
Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine proposed vote of thanks at the end of event.
