Accredited Social health activist (ASHA) have played a key role in improving health outcomes of mother and children in India. On the other hand, there are new difficulties with mental health. On 7 th June, 2024, the Department of Community Medicine hosted an all-day workshop for ASHA, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dr. Prasanna Kamath, HOD of Community Medicine, greeted everyone in attendance with great warmth on this momentous occasion and emphasized the critical role that mental health plays in everyone’s lives.
Dr. Prabhakar K., SDUMC Principal, spoke on the wide range of indications, symptoms, and therapies, and on providing a thorough investigation of their frequency and the complex elements that lead to mental health illnesses.
The HOD of OBG, Dr. Muni Krishna, provided an explanation of the services provided by our facility. He underlined the critical significance of mental wellness.
Dr. Sahana Murthy, assistant professor of Psychiatry, discussed anxiety and depression. She and her postgraduate team role-played the topic to make it easier to understand.
Speaking about the stigma associated with mental illness, Dr. Sindhu Shankar, a senior resident in Community Medicine, stressed the need of raising awareness, implementing early treatments, and dispelling the myths around mental health.
Through this workshop, ASHA gained additional knowledge regarding mental health disorders and how to support members of the community who may be afflicted with any of these conditions. They also learned the ways to reduce the stigma associated with mental health illnesses and aid in their prevention.
Concluding the event on a note of gratitude and appreciation, Dr. Pradeep TS, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks and concluded the meet.
