PERINEAL TEAR REPAIR :TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
Department of Obstetrics Gynecology
Workshop | Year - 2025 2026 | 14 Nov, 2025
Perineal injury after vaginal delivery is common, affecting up to 90% of women. Perineal trauma is associated with both short- and long-term morbidity, including persistent pain, dyspareunia, pelvic floor disorders, and depression, and may negatively affect a new mother’s ability to care for her newborn. The morbidity experienced after perineal injury is dependent on the type of laceration incurred, the technique and materials used for repair, and the skill and knowledge of the birth attendant. It is therefore important that the birth attendant be well versed in how to appropriately identify and repair different types of perineal trauma to optimize shortand long-term outcomes. Improving provider knowledge of perineal laceration types, anatomy, and repair techniques can lead to significant improvements in post repair outcomes. This workshop aims at providing good knowledge and hands on experience of these perineal tear repairs which makes trainees competent in managing perineal tears thereby reduce morbidity
